The post Pep Carrió Has Filled Out His Moleskine Sketchbook with Artwork Every Day Since 2007 appeared first on MobiSpirit.
]]>In 2007, Carrió presented himself with a challenge: create an artwork every single day. In order to make the challenge achievable, he turned to the Moleskine sketchbook, where he would use a two-page spread to make drawings, illustrations, sketches, collages, and more. This resulted in several filled-out sketchbooks and the creation of visual diaries that have intrigued his social media followers.
Carrió always carries his sketchbook with him and uses whatever material he has. Sometimes, that would be tempera, other times watercolors, and occasionally, he’ll simply use an ordinary pencil.
The thing that makes Carrió’s artworks particularly captivating is their diversity. From drawings of animals and people to a collection of cut-out newspaper headlines and trippy images, his sketchbooks hold an unexpected surprise with the turning of every page.

]]>DeJardin and AllRightsReserved teamed up to create a new series of painted bronze sculptures known as Guardians Alastor. The project represents a culmination of DeJardin’s artistic journey in the past five years, most of which focused on expanding on his idea of guardians, mysterious entities that take up all sorts of different forms and provide protection and encouragement in moments of need.
The Guardians Alastor sculpture will be released in a limited quantity of 20 units. Interested collectors can apply on AllRightsReserved’s official webshop, DDTStore, and the 20 buyers will be determined via a draw in June.
“What’s exciting about this project is that sculptures provide permanence by existing as tangible, three-dimensional objects that endure over time,” said DeJardin when discussing the project in a video shared on DDTStore’s official social media. “The idea of having a ‘Guardian’ figure placed in locations all across the globe, during a time of ongoing world turbulence, I hope provides some type of comfort and protection to its host.”

]]>While it is often perceived as a dying art form, there are more than a few artists who are making efforts to bring back fore-edge painting to relevance. One of them is TikTok user Maisie Jackson.
Jackson is known for her viral TikTok videos in which she showcases her fore-edge painting projects. This art history student can be seen decorating books belonging to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series or J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy with scenes and motifs contained in these literary masterpieces.
Jackson is an avid painter but only started doing fore-edge paintings a couple of years ago as a creative challenge. She posted some of her works on TikTok, and they quickly went viral, encouraging her to continue with the project.
While Jackson doesn’t shy away from tackling all sorts of authors and books, she admits that she enjoys most the works of Tolkien.
“Tolkien works best for me, as I was always predominantly a landscape painter, and Middle Earth is full of an amazing variety of landscape; mountains, forests, rivers and beautiful architectural concepts,” Jackson shared in one of her interviews.

]]>Turner is keeping a stitch journal, which sees her sewing an image on a piece of cloth. The fabric is divided into squares and circles, which represent days in a year. The artist then fills out the spaces each day and ends up with a colorful and diverse piece of artwork at the end of the year.
Turner usually doesn’t know what kind of image will fill out the square until she takes her needle and threads. Most of the time, it is completely intuitive and a result of a momentary inspiration.
“I’m not trying to make a beautiful thing; I’m trying to make an honest record of time passing,” the artist explains on her website. “Occasionally, if something wonderful is happening in the garden (for instance, one of my favorite plants is flowering), then I might stitch an approximate pictogram that represents it. Mostly the blocks are abstract shapes and lines, which I find more meaningful.”
Turner made her first stitch journal in 2022 and liked the practice so much that she is currently working on one for 2023. The artist is also offering courses and advice for people who want to try this unique project by themselves.

]]>In a video that has been circulating social media for the past week, Soares can be seen grabbing a plush toy of an elephant with a claw and getting it to the designated chute. However, instead of the toy, an adorable kitten comes out of the prize-retrieval opening.
Unfortunately for Soares, he only got the plush elephant toy. It turned out that he couldn’t keep the furry prize he won because it was actually the resident cat who likes to take naps in claw machines. His name is Garfield, and this wasn’t the first time that the feline tricked arcade players into thinking they got a real-life cat.
Soares enjoyed the experience regardless and later told The Dodo that the cat was the best thing he had ever won on claw machines.
“He’s the best thing I’ve ever received [playing these games],” Soares shared. “Who could imagine getting a real plush animal in such a machine?”

]]>Bateman uses beach pebbles to make what he describes as “land art”. Most of his pieces involve recreating iconic artworks from famous artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer, and others.
Each of Bateman’s works is created with pebbles he founds on the location. He begins by collecting stones of different color, size, and shape required for the particular piece. After that, he spends hours and sometimes days assembling them as a mosaic until he gets the desired result.
While Bateman can’t achieve high levels of details due to limitations of used material, he still manages to capture the essence of the original painting and make it instantly recognizable. He even creates a similar background and finishes off the piece with a fitting rocky frame.
These recreations are not meant to last for centuries like the originals and disappear quickly after they are finished. In most cases, Bateman is the one responsible for their ruin.
“I prefer the natural environment to remain natural, so I remove any indication of my presence when I leave the site and disperse the stones,” he admitted in one of his recent interviews.
But the short longevity of Bateman’s works doesn’t make them less impressive, that’s for sure. Check out more of them below.

Funnily enough, her choice to illustrate mainly, if not exclusively, flowers is a practical one. “I choose to paint flowers simply because they are an excellent vehicle for exploring color,” she says. According to Phoenix, most of the flowers and leaves are imagined and as such, provide a vehicle for her vibrant color stories.
“I’m curious about color,” she admits, “which makes me want to explore it and ‘get creative’ with it. Everyone has something they’re curious about, so I think everyone has that innate potential to explore that curiosity and in turn, be creative.”
