For years, textile artist Amanda Barnes worked many jobs until she discovered her love for needles and thread. The former bartender, web developer, account manager, restaurant, and food critic was born in Wiltshire, a small town based in the UK. However, she spent her childhood in Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the Middle East. But when she got back to her homeland nine years ago, she began following her passion: sewing and creating.

For her British followers, she is best known for her 3D soft sculpture mice. But she likes embroidery more and tries to make it as realistic as possible by adding beads to certain elements of the pieces.

Scrolling through her enchanting Instagram gallery, you’ll notice a bunch of animal portraits done with so much precision. Images of cows, roosters, giraffes, flamingos, chickens, and more, are adorning her social media platform. However, these pieces differ from others thanks to the colorful beads sewn into them.

Although she is currently available for commissions, she experiences a dose of anxiety when doing pet portraits.

“I’ve only done two pet commissions. They make me very anxious because of how personal and important they are to the customer,” she wrote on her Instagram.

She currently lives in Huston, Texas, with her husband. Scroll down and check out some of her work below!
