]]> Parmesan cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano in Italian) is pressed cheese made from cow’s milk that comes from a very specific region of Italy, namely Emilia-Romagna. It has had a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status since 1996 but its origin goes back almost 900 years and its manufacture has not changed since.

For Italian artist Valeriano Fatica, the cheese wheel is also an excellent medium for expressing one’s talents. If it is the Benedictine monks and Cistercians who, at the time of the sanitation of the padana plain, began to transform milk into large cheese that can endure a long maturing process, in Fatica’s hands it turns into a work of art . After sculpting Dracula’s portrait based on Francis Ford Coppola’s film, Drogon and The Night King from Game of Thrones and many others, the artist presents us with an interesting time-lapse of a Viking portrait carved in a Parmesan wheel. .

Valeriano Fatica also sculpts on other media such as watermelons, bananas or soap, and regularly shares his creations on his Instagram account that has over 19 000 followers.
