I believe that there exists something like a collective emotional structure which we share and which connects us,” she further explained.

Her work, therefore, is a way of visualizing the unrepresentable, creating an aesthetic parable of our inner world (“I’m trying to find a visualization that connects and hits the common points in this collective structure,” says Richter).

With common themes including geometric forms that twist and turn, colored in bright, almost glowing, colors—Richter’s work is open for interpretation. “I believe that paintings (and art in general) have the great potential of representing that hazy area in a very poetic, nonverbal but strong, feel-able way,” she says.

The exhibition brings to light Weyant’s haunting intimate oil paintings that combine modern and traditional. The style of her paintings is inspired by traditional Dutch painters, but the topics they deal with are very much modern.

This talented painter takes on the topics of youth, adolescence, and growing up that are colored in melancholy and cinematic sensibility. 

“There is a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor about everything she does. Her paintings are playful, tragicomic, and haunting, and sit firmly in a lineage of contemporary artists like John Currin, Elizabeth Peyton, Rita Ackermann, and perhaps even Lisa Yuskavage,” reads the official description of her exhibition at 56 HENRY gallery.
