Artistic duo FriendsWithYou have been spreading their unifying message of magic, luck, and friendship worldwide since their founding in 2002. What started as hand-sewn toy sculptures have since grown into larger than life projects and national and international exhibitions.

Artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III work in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, large-scale experiential installations, live performances, and more recently, virtual reality and animation. The results are joyful and interactive, inviting us to come along for the ride.

“FriendsWithYou’s mission is to cultivate moments of spiritual awareness and powerful, joyous interactions,” the two artists write on their website.

But it’s not all fun and games. “Our work is not only about positivity,” said Borkson in an interview with Fader. “It’s about facing the darkness with no fear and the entire spectrum of the human experience. Our work is a reflection of what we want for ourselves and then people have the choice to see it as they like.”

“The goal is to create communal experiences that make you feel something beyond the self and into the whole, basically the goal of all spiritual endeavors, and in doing so we use a very simple graphic language,” added
Sandoval.

Enjoy!

We are so excited to announce our installation Rainbow City Roller Rink lifts off this Friday Nov. 30th in Detroit and will run thru Jan 27th, 2019! Rainbow City Roller Rink presents a vibrant collection of weightless sculptures suspended from the ceiling as skaters roll through the rink’s striped floor. The largest figure in the group features a rotating head and stands at over 30’ tall. The installation creates a surreal landscape intended to provoke an iconic and childlike awareness, and offers an opportunity to connect physically and psychologically with an energetic, ephemeral setting. Based on the Hindu ritual Holi, the colors are meant to transcend visitors to a colorful happy place as they play. Rainbow City Roller Rink will be open to the public Wednesdays through Sundays, 2pm to 9pm. Entrance to the rink is free, and skates and lockers are available to visitors. Admittance will be permitted on a first-come-first-served basis. For more information, please visit rainbowcityrollerrink.com. This will be the 5th installment of Rainbow City following its initial exhibit in Toronto 2010, Miami 2010, New York 2011, Thailand 2015, and now Detroit 2018! Come skate with us! Also major big ups to @sara_nick @anthonycuris @jjcuris @taraakitt @alessandranoir the Library Street team for making this a reality. #friendswithyou @librarystreetcollective #rainbowcityrollerrink #librarystreetcollective #rainbowcitydetroit

Glitter and sparkle and rainbows, oh my! Australian artist Tanya Schultz works as Pip & Pop to create immersive installations and artworks from an eclectic range of materials including sugar, glitter, candy, plastic flowers, everyday craft materials, and other knick-knacks she finds on her travels.

Her work includes installation, painting, and sculptures, creating a fantasy world of sugary goodiness. The end result? A tacky, shimmery universe that is every kid’s dream (and, secretly, every grownup’s too!)

Pip & Pop actually began as a collaboration with fellow artist Nicole Andrijevic in 2007. But after four years, Andrijevic left the partnership to pursue a different career. Schultz now works solo and with other friends and artists creating projects in many parts of the world.

She has exhibited her work in Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Germany, among other places. And we can, truly, understand the hype.
