When Katie Brooks picked up a ginkgo leaf off the ground on her way to college back in 2018, she had no idea this tiny moment would change her life forever. In the years to come, she mastered the art of painting beautiful landscapes on dried leaves, blending her love for art and nature into one.

Brooks has been passionate about art since her childhood years, but it took some time before she found her true calling. She tried using other natural materials as a canvas, including feathers, stones, and seashells, but something clicked when she started experimenting with dried leaves.

“Working with real leaves feels like collaborating with the forest itself… I’m enamored by the idea of taking what would otherwise decay and make it timeless – taking stories, memories, and precious places and immortalizing them on a canvas grown from the very soil of that moment,” she wrote on her official website.

After deciding to quit her job to pursue art full-time, Brooks poured her soul into the 100 Painted Leaves Collection, painting a new leaf each day. She’s always looking for leaves with a broad, smooth surface that will let her paintings shine. Each of her tiny paintings requires a lot of time and patience because she chose to work with an incredibly delicate and fragile canvas, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Susanna Bauer is an artist who works with found natural objects from leaves, wood and stones. She uses crotchet as embellishment but mostly in a more conventional way as a means of construction and sculpture.

In her work there is a fine balance strength and fragility. Basically, when it comes to pulling a fine thread through a brittle leaf or thin dry piece of wood she has to be extra careful and sensitive. It’s always amazing how the transient yet enduring beauty of nature that can be found in the smallest detail, vulnerability and resilience that could be transferred to nature as a whole or the stories of individual beings.

“As you can imagine, working with fragile leaves requires a lot of patience and a steady hand, but the focus of my work for me lies on the effect it has on the viewer, on the ideas that flow into the compositions and the thoughts the pieces can evoke. To create a piece that not only is intriguing as to how it is made, but also touches the viewer on a deeper level,” Susanna told Bored Panda.

Meet Kanat Nurtazin, an artist that loves creating drawings by cutting fallen leaves. She started her project “100 Methods of Drawing” five years ago to showcase her unbelievable talent. Life cutting art is one of her favorites because she is able to express herself beyond her imagination. The fact that she can create amazing art from a simple leave is astonishing.

Kanat believes a leaf’s life is fleeting just like our lives so she believed that she is giving a second life to them in order to discover an untold story. She loves to imagine a bright moment and sharing it with her wide audience.

Once she has finds an inspiration she draws it on the leaf and cuts with a razor. The most important thing is to find the best suitable place to catch with her camera at the right time and right angle.

Scroll down to enjoy her art.

#vjday #vjdaykiss #vjdayintimessquare #timessquarekiss #timessquare #astana #kazakhstan #life #newyork #newyorktimes
