]]> Digital and classical techniques come together nicely in the works of artist Matthew Stone. The basis consists of brush strokes with real paint, but the effect is virtually digital. It works like this: With a brush and a solid layer of paint Stone makes thick stripes in various colors. Then he makes photos of them that are uploaded to a computer. Stone then processes the photos of the paint into three-dimensional compositions.

Most of Stone’s works consist of human figures or parts of the human body. Although he defines himself strictly as a painter, his works also strongly remind of classical sculptures such as statues and busts. The fact that the images are printed on rough linen at the end of the process ensures the final spacial effect.
