]]> Artist Paul Kobriger began his drawing journey about four years ago. Before becoming an artist, the San Diego-based Kobriger had another passion; skateboarding. While working as a Marketing Director in a company called TransWorld SKATEboarding, he rediscovered his talent and love of drawing. Nowadays, he is a well-known artist who creates hyper-realistic portraits you could easily confuse for photographs.

Well here it is folks. I put everything I have into this drawing and I’m so happy to finally be finished. This is the best I can possibly do with a ballpoint pen. Any hyperrealistic artist will tell you that an eraser is your best friend – not only for fixing mistakes but also for bringing out highlights. Pores and skin textures are a serious chore with pen- not to mention the white hair! The 145 hours that this took to complete would have easily been half that with graphite or charcoal. But to me the challenge of ballpoint is what makes it special. I want to give a huge thanks to my friend @stevecaballero. Like most of you I grew up idolizing Cab. I was 13 years old when I saw Animal Chin and he has been a hero ever since. It’s incredibly surreal to call him my friend today 30 years later. Happy (late) Birthday Steve and thank you for being the raddest dude on the planet. So much love, respect, and gratitude to you my friend. 🙏🏼❤ Thanks @kcarmstrong for the reference photo. I’m putting the ballpoint down for awhile now to focus on other mediums. ✌🏻

This time, the artist talks about his favorite piece, a portrait of his biggest hero, Mr. Steve Caballero.

“I’ve made some decent drawings but decided I would put everything I have into this one to make it my best ever,” the artist wrote on Bored Panda. “25 hours into my first attempt, I had to abort. It was…imperfect. I started over at a slower pace and an even higher standard. 145 hours later and here is the finished piece of one of my biggest heroes (and great friend), skateboarding legend Mr. Steve Caballero.”
