Breathtaking Last Photographs of “Elephant Queen”

Meet F_MU1, the last queen elephant with the most amazing tasks you will ever see. For more than sixty years, she lived a peaceful life in Tsavo, Kenya. British photographer Will Burrard-Lucas partnered with two organizations to showcase the beautiful nature of animals in Tsavo when they captured the elephant.

Will captured the last images of her before she died of natural causes. She had survived through terrible poaching and it such a victory that her life was not ended prematurely by a bullet, poised arrow or snare.

“F_MU1 was an elephant that few people outside Tsavo knew about. Photographing her, in partnership with Tsavo Trust and Kenya Wildlife Service, was one of the greatest honors of my career,” says Will.

F_MU1 was skinny and old but and her tusks were so long that they scraped the ground in front of her. She was like a relic from a bygone era. In addition, her temperament was gentle and calm.
