Cabeza Patata’s Balloonish Characters Are All the Rage

It’s hard not to fall in love with Cabeza Patata’s 3D illustrations. Their colorful characters have a distinct quality to them, with round heads, thin necks, and fashionable outfits. “We care about diversity and female empowerment and we joined forces to create a world of playful yet strong characters, full of energy and positivity,” their website states.

But Katie Menzies and Abel Reverter’s artistic collaboration (AKA Cabeza Patata) began as a sort of mistake.

“One afternoon in February 2018 we decided to do an experiment translating a simple 2D illustration of Katie’s into 3D,” they recalled to It’s Nice That Magazine. “A dozen illustrations later, people started asking if we were a studio, and at that point, we became Cabeza Patata.”

These days, Menzies, an illustrator and craftswoman, and Reverter, a 3D artist and animator, work together to create their whimsical characters that have caught the world’s attention. With collaborations with the New York Times, Apple, and Google, the sky’s truly the limit for these two creatives.
