Check Out These LED Lights That React To Ambient Sound

Recently, the New York-based design studio SOFTlab created a reflective semi-circular structure with a prismatic array of mirror at the center. The coloful panels are placed at sharp angles within the round structure, refracting glowing, geometric patterns of light as the sun hits its interior.

The project, Mirror Mirror, was commissioned by Alexandria, Virginia’s Office of the Arts. SOFTlab was inspired by the lens in the city’s 19th-century lighthouse. At the time, the Fresnel lens was already considered as advanced technology, using a series of prisms to create a bright and direct light source as a navigational support.

The outdoor installation has LED tubes that respond to movement and each part is activated to produce light, allowing the work to be radiantly illuminated, even after sundown.
