Elia Colombo Illustrates the Dependence on Social Networks

Italian illustrator and self-proclaimed “creative mind” Elia Colombo is an artist who focuses on conceptual illustrations and in the constant search for “perfection in simplicity” as shown on his website. He says he loves silence and mediation, but he describes herself also as a “not at all curious” person, which is really bizarre statement for a designer.

Colombo combines her graphic design skills with her interest in philosophy to create compelling conceptual illustrations. His works try to illustrate the perils of modern society, and the themes include social pressure, mental health issues and the addictive effects of social networks, as well as the loneliness some people feel, which is not cured or hidden by the abundant use of social networks.

Although Colombo’s works seem quite negative and full of caustic social commentary, he hopes that his work will inspire people to “get out of the box” in which they are imprisoned. What the Italian artist wants to convey as a message is in his motto: “Do not try to be good, just try to be different!”

Still, we cannot help to notice the irony that while he denounces the excessive use of social networks, his works have become quite popular on Instagram. You can check out some of them below.

THE LOST SHEEP Clarification: this is not a moral critique of Facebook. As a Whatsapp/Instagram user it would be like boycotting Coca Cola by drinking Fanta πŸ‘Œ This is just the manifestation of my point of view. Cause at the end of the day, a Fanta lover has not to love Coca Cola necessarily πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ @gebelia #eliacolombo _____ "O greggia mia che posi, oh te beata, Che la miseria tua, credo, non sai!" BREAKING THE RULE Don't let them decide the path you're on. We all know where each road leads, no one can fail the Final Goal. But the way you reach it is entirely in your hand. WHO AM I? Nothing but a living web of relations that I establish with others. At the far bottom of myself I always find a perpetual multitude instead of a "real" ego, kind of a tombstone. You all are part of this endless transit, so let me say: thank you ❀ #eliacolombo _____ "Non compresero, naturalmente, che cosa intendessi dire con quel "nessuno" cercato accanto a me; e credettero che con quell'"eccoci" mi riferissi anche a loro due, sicurissimi che lΓ¬ dentro quel salotto fossimo ora in tre e non in nove; o piuttosto, in otto, visto che io – per me stesso – ormai non contavo piΓΉ.
