Elia Colombo Illustrates the Dependence on Social Networks

Italian illustrator and self-proclaimed “creative mind” Elia Colombo is an artist who focuses on conceptual illustrations and in the constant search for “perfection in simplicity” as shown on his website. He says he loves silence and mediation, but he describes herself also as a “not at all curious” person, which is really bizarre statement for a designer.

Colombo combines her graphic design skills with her interest in philosophy to create compelling conceptual illustrations. His works try to illustrate the perils of modern society, and the themes include social pressure, mental health issues and the addictive effects of social networks, as well as the loneliness some people feel, which is not cured or hidden by the abundant use of social networks.

Although Colombo’s works seem quite negative and full of caustic social commentary, he hopes that his work will inspire people to “get out of the box” in which they are imprisoned. What the Italian artist wants to convey as a message is in his motto: “Do not try to be good, just try to be different!”

Still, we cannot help to notice the irony that while he denounces the excessive use of social networks, his works have become quite popular on Instagram. You can check out some of them below.
