Graffiti Artist Pays Tribute to Pop Icons With Huge Public Murals

Akse is a French graffiti artist of Vietnamese origins who started painting, particularly spraypainting walls, in 1992.

His work is incredibly photorealistic and murals of popular characters and icons are scattered throughout Manchester, UK, where he is based.

Recently, the street artist paid tribute to HBO blockbuster series Game of Thrones, by painting a large portrait of Arya Stark, one of the leading characters of the fantasy series. He also made a portrait of his favorite GoT character, Tyrion Lannister, in the district of Shoreditch in London. This is the second time he painted the character, the first time was in Hulme Manchester back in 2014.

Portrait of graphic designer Peter Saville @petersavilleartwork spraypainted in Withington as part of the M20 Festival 2018 that celebrated the 40th anniversary of the founding of Factory Records which took place last October; i was not available to paint for the event but the organisers still wanted me to paint a piece as part of an attempt to revive Withington village so here is is 5 months later. Peter Saville happened to deliver some artwork past the deadline so it’s a funny coincidence that this piece was also completed after the event 😅 i intend to add a twist to it, an experimental exercise, not sure if it will work but worth a try.
