Former art educator and therapist, Mary Finlayson,
Originally from Vancouver, B.C., Finlayson is now based in San Francisco, where she formed her brand Painted Mary. “Painted Mary is a reflection of myself and my interests,” she told Rare Device Blog. “I’m not sure it’s a brand, but rather an expression of my art and experiences. My style is influenced by artists like David Hockney, Matisse, and Stuart Davis as well as the natural beauty and colors of California.”
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen’s University, a Graduate Degree in Art Therapy from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute as well an Arts Education Degree from the University of British Columbia, it’s little wonder her paintings are carefully crafted.
For Finlayson, her love for art was forever present. “I really can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t interested in painting,” she said. “My mom always kept a huge drawer in the kitchen full of art supplies so after school I would entertain myself at the table drawing and painting until it was time for dinner.”
