Michael Zee’s Symmetrical Breakfasts are the Definition of Couple Goals

There’s nothing quite like having your partner bring you breakfast in bed, and no one does it better than Michael Zee. He prepares two tasty plates for himself and his partner every morning, and the symmetrical photos of their breakfast are to die for.

Zee’s photos look so good we wouldn’t judge you if you thought they’re Photoshopped, but that’s certainly not the case. They simply include a lot of patience and love, and the amateur cook carefully arranges each plate until they look exactly the same.

Michael’s boyfriend Mark used to work crazy hours at the beginning of their relationship, and breakfast was the only guaranteed time they would have together. He wanted to make it more special, and that’s how he came up with the idea for viral symmetry breakfast.

Michael always makes breakfast with Mark in mind, but he enjoys sharing it with the rest of the world on his Instagram page, which currently has almost 800,000 followers. It’s not difficult to see why, since they’re definitely couple goals and there’s nothing quite like enjoying the most important meal of the day with the person you love.

Saturday: Brunch at @ximeshanghai 嘻咩〆 two of their sashimi sushi rice bowls with egg and all the trimmings, miso soup and oolong tea. It’s one of my favourite small Japanese restaurants in Shanghai and it’s in the guide that I wrote that is out at the end of this month! Everyone in town knows how good their lunch sets are, and the homemade infused sochus too – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Sam Norris (ex Koya, London) and chef Jun Nishio are also super nice guys! Even better that this wasn’t an invite and I whole heartedly can say this is a great place to eat in Shanghai. Hey y’all, today I’m celebrating #WorldFoodDay in collaboration with @fao the department of the United Nations 🇺🇳 that looks at food and agriculture around the world. Today is about looking at what changes I can make to my diet, whether it’s cutting down on takeaways and cooking at home, to reducing single use plastics, or simply swapping white for brown rice in a way that’s sustainable and ultimately better for all of us. One of the biggest changes I’ve made in the last year is giving up beef and reducing the amount of meat I eat overall. Eggs with a Levantine flair, sweet caramelised onions with eggs, herby yoghurt, avocado and za’atar pita chips using @zaytoun_cic (not an ad) 😍 because I also like brands even if they don’t pay me but because I like them😂 I love this style of egg dish, it’s incredibly easy to prepare and looks a million dollars in the end. Dahi Vada 🇮🇳 a popular Indian snack eaten anytime of day, a lentil dumpling of sorts, deep fried and then soaked in water. A totally new process for me to try, the water allows the excess oil to come out and then the fritters are gently squeezed, and they’re quite resilient but don’t squeeze too hard! Topped with homemade cultured yoghurt, coriander chilli chutney, a sprinkle of chaat masala and tamarind sauce for a sour kick! Served with avocado dressed with lemongrass soy and sev, the King of Snacks and now the bag is open I guess we’ll just have to take it with us on holiday.
