Roxx’s Geometric Tattoos Are Works of Art

Tattoos have long evolved from the early days of anchors and tigers, and have grown into embellished works of art. And if tattoos are art, then Los Angeles-based tattoo artist, known simply as Roxx, has got to be one of the living day masters.

The human body is her canvas. Her minimalist geometric tattoos, drawn using black ink only, resemble Escher’s graphic designs, sprawling across chests, arms, and legs.

And for this tattoo enthusiast, ink can truly transform the body. Once a client arrives, she forgoes the typical pre-planned stencil placement. “When you’re drawing things straight onto the body, they have another magical quality to them that is often lost,” she explained in an interview with GQ.

To create her works, Roxx looks to the structure of leaves and shells. Specifically, “The repeating patterns and the geometry,” she explained, “the stuff that’s always fascinated mystics and philosophers and shamans.”

Prepare to be wowed.
