Surreal Art by Moscow-Based Julia Petrova

Julia Petrova is an artist who lives in Moscow, Russia, where she creates these amazingly surreal paintings inspired by old sci-fi movies and shows. Her art has a vintage vibe and you’ll feel like you’re viewing Jodorowsky’s Dune or old album covers for Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.

When asked if she includes herself in her artwork, Petrova answered: “While it’s tempting, I don’t think I’m present in my illustrations as any of the characters,” Creative Boom writes. “In these worlds they navigate, I’m more of an invisible entity always standing next to them and giving them a sense of understanding even in the most unexpected situations. By characters, I don’t only mean human, or even animate, ones.”

Her favorite technique is watercolor but she achieves depth with ink and liner pens. Many of her scenes feel surreal and dream-like, so if that’s something you like in art, we’re sure you’ll enjoy her work.

Petrova also makes jewelry, which you can check out on her website. There’s also an online store where you can buy original paintings or prints. Enjoy her work below!
