]]> Printmaking is best known for its unique look and is being used by various artists from around the world. But many people cannot afford this due to very expensive cost of a printing press.

Open Press Project, founded by Martin Schneider, is the first 3D-printed etching press and aims to make printmaking accessible to everyone. Through this project, everyone who has access to a 3D printer can produce their own fully functional DIY press and print their own etchings or engravings.

Since launching the project last year, more than 12,000 people have downloaded the printing plans to create their own printing press. You can also purchase the portable press through Open Press Project’s Kickstarter at aroung $60.

Check out this cool modification of the #openpressproject by @wild_shed! Thanks for sharing and thanks for sending three awesome prints to Germany. They‘ll be part of the Open Press Collection show next week! #Repost @wild_shed with @get_repost ・・・ So here goes my first ever #marchmeetthemaker… . Day 1: Favourite to make. . Hands down it has to be making mini prints using the @openpressproject mini press. They can be quite challenging (cutting all the tiny/intricate shapes/marks and getting the inking just right) but I love being able to make larger editions of collagraph prints. Due to the amount of time it usually takes to ink and print some of the larger plates, I tend to only do a maximum edition run of 12. With these mini prints, printing larger editions, allows me to be able to offer original prints at a more accessible entry price. In two weeks we will present the Open Press Collection @koelnergraphikwerkstatt as part of the "Tag der Druckkunst" (day of printmaking) in Cologne, Germany! The exhibition consists of more than 200 prints by more than 100 creatives from all over the world! I'm very happy with how this turned out and that's only because so many awesome people have participated, thank you!! Also, it's very cool to see that a few people will travel to Germany to see the show! I'm really looking forward to meeting you in person!
