Jasmine Little creates stoneware vessels that channel ancient sculpting in imagined civilizations. Her creations highlight the constant tension between personal history and historical tradition.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, Little trained at Copper Mountain College, Joshua Tree, CA, the University of California, Los Angeles, CA, and Adam State University, Alamosa, CO, with her practices including sculpting, drawing, and painting. But it’s her vessels that first caught our attention. Shaped like pillars or cylindrical vases, they are carved with decorative naive iconography that seems out of place and out of time.

According to Litte, the decorative carving of these surfaces is very much dictated by the materials themselves. Using clay that is hand-mixed in California, she incorporates foreign substances that create a distinctive surface. Little then carves directly into this clay while it is still wet and inlays additional materials that include porcelain, common gravel, and clinker bricks.

“A lot of the materials are really specific to place,” she explained in an interview with Art of Choice, “the gravel embedded in the surfaces is from the yard, the porcelain is one of his formulations, and the bricks are salvaged clinker bricks that are from the immediate area and reference the history of the arts and craft movement in Pasadena.”

Her work has been exhibited both locally and internationally. Scroll down to see some highlights.

There is nothing as satisfying in life than doing a job that you personally love.  Aniko left her job to follow her heart and she has never looked back. As an artist, she loves making fantasy book covers with polymer clay.

Aniko films YouTube tutorials, sculpting from polymer clay and playing with other craft materials in her life. She is also a jewelry designer and a YouTube craft’s guru and doesn’t plan on giving up on her love anytime soon.

She truly believes in what she does and is on a mission to inspire other artists to never give up, stay creative and strong on this beautiful and tough journey of being an artist.

Her fantasy book covers are out of this world and look unreal. Her work include “Mother’s Love” journal made for the Giraffe Conservation Organisation, “The Baby Dragon” journal, frog journals and “The Spirit Of The Forest” kindle cover (one of her very first covers).

Check out her marvelous work.

We can’t get enough of Genesis Belanger’s surrealistic creations! The Brooklyn-based sculptor turns everyday objects such as cigarette stubs and soda cans, into fantastical, if comical, pieces of art.

Having studied fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago she has built props for advertising campaigns in Manhattan before earning her MFA from Hunter College, where she was accepted into the painting program only to be captivated by clay.

Her ceramic and porcelain creations were featured in numerous exhibitions at key galleries and museums, including the Galerie Perrotin, Seoul and the Galerie Perrotin, New York.

“It’s easy to find art in the abject, that touches some dark discord,” she told Galerie, “but I think it’s possible to make work that is relevant and beautiful.”

Check out some of her work below.
