]]>Artist Thomas Taylor made the illustration at the age of 23 and it was his first-ever commissioned artwork. It was used for the first edition of the book in the United Kingdom and sporadically for books translated into other languages. In the United States, the artwork created by Mary GrandPré was used as a cover alongside a different title of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
In 2001, following the release of the movie based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Taylor auctioned off the illustration through Sotheby’s. At the time, the piece was purchased by a private collector for $106,000.
“At the time this seemed like an optimum moment to sell: with the new film just out, I thought the books would all be given movie tie-in covers, and my artwork quickly forgotten. That didn’t happen of course, but there was no way I would have kept the artwork till today — I would certainly have sold it long ago,” Taylor shared in an Instagram post.
Taylor’s illustration for the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone cover hasn’t been exhibited since being purchased, but that is set to change in the days leading up to the auction. The fans of the series will be able to see it at Sotheby’s exhibit gallery in New York City from June 21 to 25. It will then head to auction alongside the first edition of the book, which is expected to sell for $100,000.

]]>This, as we said, was a couple of years ago. Indra had an idea in mind of what she wanted the wall to look like by the end of the project, but quickly, things got out of hand. In addition to the mural, Indra started visiting thrift shops and Harry Potter memorabilia shops to find accessories that would complement the newly painted wall. She found an old battered chest, Hogwarts-themed bed sheets, a tiny snitch. She couldn’t stop purchasing new additions for her daughter’s room.
Then she decided to paint some more. What started as a single wall, and a short-term project just kept growing as Indra kept adding details and spilling over to the other walls. Today, there isn’t a single corner in the room that isn’t wholly dedicated to Harry Potter. It has completed its transformation into Hogwarts.

]]>Book purists will always believe that reading the books always make for a better if not definitive experience, and they have good reason to say so. After all, it’s near-impossible for even the best directors to translate what the author wrote in the books into a two-hour, or even a three-hour film.
Not even the book’s authors themselves would know how to do that!
Katie Knudson knows that, which is why, as a comic artist, she took it upon herself to try and educate Harry Potter fans who never were able to read the books, as to why some fans are very firm in their beliefs.
By drawing some of the most emotionally packed scenes that never made it to the films, Katie Knudson proves just why exactly the books are so amazing.
If you don’t believe us, then why don’t you go and see them for yourself?
Below, you’ll find some of the most touching scenes in the Harry Potter books that, for some reason, the directors saw it fit not to include them in any one of the films.

“As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on,” wrote Watson. “There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too.”
