]]>Comedian is the work of the Italian conceptional artist Maurizio Cattelan, and it became quite a sensation following its first display in 2019. After sparking a heated debate about the meaning of art in the modern world, the installation traveled around the globe – along with the instruction for the banana to be replaced after it rots.
Two editions of this artwork sold for $120,000 each at Art Basel Miami Beach, while the third was donated to the Guggenheim Museum, but it turns out that was just the beginning. One of the original bananas was on display during a recent auction at Sotheby’s in New York, where it fetched $6.2 million.
The Chinese cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun outbid six rivals to buy the artwork, and he claims he’s planning to eat it as part of this unique artistic experience.
“This is not just an artwork; it represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community. I believe this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and will become a part of history,” wrote Sun on X (formerly known as Twitter).

]]>Tastes and colors differ so much from one person to another that the passions of others can sometimes seem absurd to us. Slightly obsessive Instagram accounts compile for example photos of clothing labels or seats in the public transit. An account specializing in toilet paper currently caught our attention, and it seems to exceed in its colorful weirdness.
@toiletpapersmagazine lists images of rolls of toilet paper, most of the time without real-life models. We discover the Donald Trump roll, the rainbow roll dotted with vermicelli or even colored versions in various shades. Also, we can admire toilet paper arty patterns or even ones branded by Dior. This is a quite specific curation that has attracted more than 6,000 subscribers to date.
The name of the account refers to the actual Toilet Paper Magazine, a project led by Italian artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, a publication with a very visual flair, but also a brand that sells many derivative products – skates, jewelry, books, etc. The Instagram account simply has fun by literally taking the name of the project of the two artists by making an account 100% dedicated to the toilet rolls. We’ll let you behold the results.
