]]>Moving between art and documentary; her main work includes portraits. She captures fleeting moments with modest means, employing a methodology as paired down as her subjects. The result is heartwarming, if somewhat nostalgic.
“I never thought about being a photographer,” admitted Ásgeirsdóttir in an interview with wertn. “It was my dad who suggested it when I finished high school. I wanted to move abroad but I did not know what to study, and he knew that I liked Berlin, but I was looking at literature studies etc, and he said ‘why don’t you do photography? It’s what you’re doing right now!'”
Indeed, Ásgeirsdóttir showed an interest in photography early on. “I bought my first camera when I was 12, and took photos of leaves on the ground,” she admitted. Her photo-shoots have a spontaneity to them that can’t be duplicated. “I tried to do more shootings where I plan everything but I never end up with that result; I think it also should be fun, and I really like having a bit of freedom without a very clear idea beforehand, instead of thinking ‘I have to make it perfect,'” she explained.

]]>Much of Maple’s inspiration originates from her mixed religious and cultural upbringing. “Initially I just liked drawing, painting and writing,” she told Powder Zine. “After a while I realized I was quite good at it. I started studying art and realized, as cheesy as it sounds, art gave me a voice.”
“I realised I could get across the things I wanted to express through this media. It’s the most exciting thing in the world to me. I love making art that touches people or makes them think about something in a new light.”
“I think in daily life I feel powerless but in my art I don’t,” she admitted. “I feel like I can be loud and sensationalist and attention grabbing, it’s the exact opposite of what I am as a person.”
Her artwork, film, and performances have been exhibited at galleries and institutions including Tate Britain, Golden Thread Gallery, and Tallin Art Hall.

]]>“I’ve long had a dream to be a wildlife and nature photographer skipping around on Antarctic icebergs and snapping exotic species hidden deep in forests,” she says. “However, when I became a mum I had to face up the fact that I not only didn’t have the luxury of traveling to those places, but I often only had an hour or two at difficult times of the day to shoot like in the midday sun. So I decided to change my front and back yards to create the type of images I wanted to shoot.”
In order to attract local bees and birds, she planted many native Australian plants. You can see her work below.
