]]> Most of us grew up thinking the world belonged to skinny people. Up until recently, athletic meant skinny. Dancing was either a way to lose weight or to show off your skinny body. But today, thanks to social media and a few inspiring dancers, that world is slowly changing. Meet the plus-sized dancers that prove that you don’t have to be skinny to dance.

Big moves is a dance company that was founded in 2000 by Marina Wolf Ahmad. Ahmad’s aim was to show the world that dancing isn’t just for a certain type of people – it’s for everybody. Big, small, athletic, clumsy – if you want to dance, you can.

Since then, Ahmad and her company have been working on spreading the love of dance across the globe and helping plus-sized people get involved.

The dancers in Big Moves don’t’ dance to lose weight – they dance to strengthen their bodies and express themselves. And they show that being big doesn’t make you less of an amazing dancer – you can be just as flexible, strong, and talented as anybody else!

Big Moves helps plus-size people get involved in dancing, but their message is for everyone – you shouldn’t let other people’s expectations define who you are. If you have a passion – follow it, and don’t listen to the haters!

Sarah and Tigress, back for Covering Our Tracks this Saturday and Sunday, July 6th and 7th at Laney College in Oakland! . . Sarah and Tigress are fatass badass partners in crime who've been dancing together for years. They are bonded by their love of the Simpsons, a commitment to brunching in cute outfits, and full body eyerolls at the shenanigans they endure as women over 40 living under the patriarchy. . . They are regulars in the annual Big Moves summer show (this is their 7th time performing together!) as well as staples in the annual Taste for Dance event, where they bring their scorpio energy and Halloween love to life each fall in Oakland.
