Pop culture is all around us and it’s something that is hard not to love. This is especially the case with the iconic pop culture characters that people get drawn to for various reasons. Some of us like how relatable they can be, while others just think they look cool.

Pop culture and its characters have also been a great source of inspiration for Samet Turkan. This Istanbul-based art student creates pencil drawings of all your favorite iconic pop culture characters, and saying they’re impressive would be an understatement.

What makes Turkan’s works so great is the fact that he pays a lot of attention to the details. This makes the final result so close to the source that you’d think it’s a sketch of an original.

Turkan shares his drawings on his Instagram profile where he already amassed over 100,00 followers. Each of his works is posted in the same frame as the reference, enabling you to compare the two.

In a recent chat with Bored Panda, Turkan revealed that he came up with the idea of sharing his works online after receiving praise from his teachers and friends. The internet loved it, and the positive reaction prompted him to start producing content on a regular basis.

Check out more of Turkan’s works below.

Hodas’ Cartoon Fossils series features Minnie Mouse, Spongebob, Tweety Bird, and many other characters. Next to each sculpture, he added a year when each character first appeared on TV and their made-up zoological names.

“Initially, I wanted to make them stylized as dinosaur fossils set up in a museum environment, but later decided against it, as the skulls didn’t look very recognizable on their own—especially with parts broken or missing. That’s why I opted for (a) less damaged look and also added some assets to each of the characters,” This is Colossal quoted the artist.

Scroll down to see how Hodas made the sculptures. He used a bunch of programs like Cinema 4D, Zbrush, 3D Coat, and more to create each of them and we can really see that he put a lot of effort into this collection.

Indra Spronk and her daughter have been huge Harry Potter fans for years. Like many Potterheads, they enjoy collecting merchandise and decorating their house with HP memorabilia. Indra also happens to be an artist specializing in mural painting. A few years ago, she had an idea: she wanted to surprise her daughter by painting scenes from the movies on one of her bedroom walls – a glimpse of Hogwarts.

This, as we said, was a couple of years ago. Indra had an idea in mind of what she wanted the wall to look like by the end of the project, but quickly, things got out of hand. In addition to the mural, Indra started visiting thrift shops and Harry Potter memorabilia shops to find accessories that would complement the newly painted wall. She found an old battered chest, Hogwarts-themed bed sheets, a tiny snitch. She couldn’t stop purchasing new additions for her daughter’s room.

Then she decided to paint some more. What started as a single wall, and a short-term project just kept growing as Indra kept adding details and spilling over to the other walls. Today, there isn’t a single corner in the room that isn’t wholly dedicated to Harry Potter. It has completed its transformation into Hogwarts.

“I think people just like to see things destroyed,” the told Gestalten. “We love to watch the mighty fall. It’s why we have so many tabloid newspapers. My work uses very recognizable pop culture icons at the core–which provides the ‘mighty,’ and I provide the fall.”

Before he started illustrating deconstructed pop culture icons, he used to design t-shirts. You can see more of his work on his Instagram.

Since the 19th century, historians have been interested in embroidery, and currently, there are many museums and collections dedicated to this part of the historical heritage. Embroidery, as a decorative art, is widespread and has various meanings for centuries. From generation to generation this tradition was transmitted and perfected.

Embroidered paths, tablecloths, bedspreads, pillowcases, as well as clothes, national costumes, and party clothes, have always been an important part of the Ukrainians’ way of life. In the past,  women have been preparing embroidered objects for their weddings. They had to offer an embroidered shirt and towel to their fiancees. The traditional costumes, feminine and masculine, were real masterpieces.

The Kiev-located OLK manufactory has created a series of carpets with traditional motifs dedicated to pop-culture. From Pikachu to Yoda via Homer Simpson, traditional embroidery meets some fictional heroes of our time. OLK carpets and fashion accessories such as bags are embroidered in a traditional way. It offers an interesting and funny look at the current pop-culture.

Gastronomy and art are often linked, literally. Thai artist Nawaporn Pax Piewpun knows how to make from rice an authentic dish with attractive design. From Pikachu to Doraemon, also passing through the Star Wars characters, Nawaporn Pax creates succulent dishes where the rice becomes figurines that represent the popular world of television and film.

Her dishes have already traveled the world through social networks, where the young woman shares her culinary creations. On Instagram, Nawaporn is well-known as @peaceloving_pax, and has already gained nearly 130,000 followers. Meanwhile, she also reveals how she cooks and creates these funny little rice balls on her Youtube channel.

Undoubtedly, one must be endowed with a great imagination and talent to turn simple rice balls into pop culture characters, a project she has called “Cute Food”. She not only prepares her works with rice but also creates amazing “cute” popular culture-inspired sandwiches too.

Dutch artist Stefan Thelen, aka Super A, presents the classic characters of cartoons and pop culture like Batman and Mickey Mouse, to reveal their most realistic, fragile and human side. It seems that the subjects of his paintings are “peeled” to reveal their true face and their true nature, made of weaknesses, fears and dreams.

Thelen’s unique style relies on both playing with stereotypes and really detailed imagery, and invokes associations with the “revealing the face behind the mask” style of psychology. As Super A, Thelen is known also as a prolific street and graffiti artist.

Kanye West, Donald Trump, Nike, Apple, alcohol and fast food. These are only a few of the themes that are constantly featured in the works of Dot Pigeon. He cleverly throws everything in a heap to create a clever mash-up.

Behind the Dot Pigeon nom de plume is Stefano Fraone, art director and graphic designer from Milan. He calls himself an autodidact visual guy somewhere between minimalism and baroque. You also see that his work is sometimes very exuberant and detailed and sometimes very basic and sober, filled with social commentary on current matters.

A good example is the portrait of Kanye West. This is inspired by the official portrait of Barack Obama by Kehinde Wiley. The background with flowers on this painting has been replaced by the logo of Twitter. Allusions with the Twitter controversies and rants of Kanye are quite obvious.

You can check out the “real self” of the iconic figures of pop culture below.
