Currently working onboard the International Space Station on her first spaceflight as part of Expedition 61 and 62, she has also participated in research flights on NASA’s reduced gravity aircraft and served as an aquanaut in an underwater habitat for NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO).
“For me, coming up here, it just was the most amazing experience of my life, coming to the International Space Station, something that I had dreamed about since I was a kid,” she remarked in an interview with wbur. “And let me tell you, I thought it would be amazing. I knew it would be amazing. It is even far, far, far more incredible and impressive than I ever imagined. And that’s saying a lot.”
Luckily for us, we get to admire her magnificent work, as well as her travels into space, from the comfort of our home – whilst scrolling through her official Instagram page. With more than 150k followers, you’d want to join in. It’s not every day that you get to follow an astronaut around.

]]>Made by Hiromi Sato, a Japanese artist, these cups hide an entire universe in them that comes to life when they’re filled with transparent liquid. Each cup is a story for itself – they are all made out of stainless steel, but they are all painted by hand; that’s why all of these sake cups have their own unique design. To achieve this, Sato uses a special paint, then he adds a coat of lacquer and gold dust to make them shine. With this technique, the artist manages to create a mini universe that shines when you pour transparent or semi-transparent liquid in it. You can order them from Sato’s website and have a one-of-a-kind set that you can use with your friends and family.

]]>Believe it or not, this Instagram account shows us un-retouched, just a little bit resized pictures of Mars! Yes, the planet. Not the candy. The Mars Science Laboratory along with the Curiosity rover decided to use Instagram as an easy and accessible platform to share all of the images they have taken on Mars so far.
Аt first glance they might look unreal, they might look as if they are a set of some new Hollywood movie, or in some cases you might be just a little bit skeptical or even cynical, proclaiming them as: meh, nothing but rocks and sand.
But, when you think about it, it’s really out-of-this-world crazy to just imagine how far Mars actually is, and how those grey rocks have never been touched by humanity before. In each of their descriptions they give details about when the picture was taken, why was it taken, and what are their plans for that specific region of Mars. So, if you are curious about the future discoveries done on Mars, this might be the perfect IG account to follow, starting today.

]]>But for American artist, Scott Listfield, the apocalypse is explored through a different medium: painting. His eerie paintings feature a lone exploratory astronaut lost in a landscape cluttered with pop culture icons, corporate logos, and tongue-in-cheek science fiction references.
His lonesome astronaut doesn’t explore a distant, unimagined future, but delves into the present – walking through deserted malls and desolated in-and-outs.
“A surprising amount of my young life happened in or around malls, department stores, and shopping centers,” explained the artist in an interview for Creative Boom. “But these physical spaces – the stores, buildings, signs, logos, loading docks, parking lots, and atrium fountains – are largely fading away… Before they’re gone entirely, I wanted to make some paintings about them.”
