Tattoo is long considered an art form per se, as the talented tattooists use the body as a canvas to experiment with original and avant-garde techniques. Few can compare in originality with the Portuguese artist Nouvelle Rita though.
The Lisbon-based tattoo artist flawlessly draws animals through geometric shapes and curvy, sketchy lines. Usually lacking shading or color, her designs are minimalistic but this doesn’t make them simplistic in any way.
Looks like Rita is influenced as an artist by Cubism, but although the linework is the most important accent on display the tattoos naturally fit into body’s natural curves. Her art reaches a strange balance between light and intensity, between nature, geometry, and the human body.
