Artist Uses Quilling Technique to Create Colorful Portraits

Quilling is also known as filigree and it involves the use and manipulation of paper strips to create decorative designs. These paper strips can be shaped, rolled, and even glued together in the process. Artists usually loop, curl, roll and twist the paper to create shapes that make up the designs.

The process starts with rolling a single strip of paper into a coil. The coil is then pinched into shapes which are glued together. Some advanced artists use this method to create 3D miniatures, flowers, abstract art, and portraits.

This talented artist, Yasser Safy Elrahman, uses quilling among other artistic methods. He has created portraits of people such as Gandhi, Emma Stone, Shawn Mendes and others.
