Do you remember those old plates with flowers and random portraits on them? The ones that your grandma probably still keeps around? Well, they are making a big comeback thanks to Canadian artist Marie-Claude Marquis.
Marquis uses these vintage plates as a canvas on which she projects witty messages that are both funny and relatable. They can revolve around the image on the plate, or just be random bits of wisdom that is drawn on the ceramic.
“My work is an account of the everyday world in which I live,” says Marquis of her works. “It illustrates the lifestyle and the imagination of people of my generation and especially of those that evolve around me. My work questions human responses, the intimacy of daily life, and the uniqueness of each individual.”
