Egyptian Artist Draws Cartoon Characters as Humans

Mohamed Halawany is an Egypt based art director who has an intriguing art project titled Real Toons in which he reimagines cartoon characters as humans.

Halawany keeps the defining traits of the characters but gives them a human-like body and clothes. For example, he shows Toy Story‘s Buzz Lightyear as a businessman in a suit while Teenage Mutant Turtles‘ Donatello is a teenager in jeans and a t-shirt.

According to Halawany, the idea for the project came while he was experimenting with 3D art.

“I started making daily 3D renders in my free time since 2017, just for fun, inspired by many 3D artists that do the same. So I’m trying to find a new idea every day, and Real Toons is one of them,” said Halawany while adding that he usually needs two hours to finish one illustration.
