Maria Ivanova is an award-winning artist from Saint Petersburg, Russia who creates dark, haunting, mysterious, at the same time-sensitive digital paintings and animated films. Sometimes her artworks look like digital paintings, sometimes like photographs, however, she says that art is “the most important part of my life.”
“It also helps me survive during hard times, sometimes it is a form of escapism, a coping mechanism. At other times, it is art that helps me to stay connected with the world,” the artist told in an interview for Ballpit and added that her creations are inspired by mythology, folklore, symbolism, psychology, dualism, books, and many other things.
