Egg-Headed People Float in Saehan Parc’s Illustrations

Fine lines, subtle colors and surreal egg-headed people—these are the first things one notices upon seeing Saehan Parc’s artwork. The South Korean artist based in Strasbourg creates illustrations that tackle ethical and social issues while experimenting with different styles.

Parc said in an interview with It’s Nice That that she’s combined two different styles over the years—one with circular forms and marker coloring and other, manga-like style. She’s constantly trying to improve her work by tackling different social issues and ideas that are important to her.

“It changes every year actually. Last year I was focusing on diverse racial and feminine representation because it was important to me,” she said. “This year I wish to explore more about environmentally responsible processes of image production. For example, I recently made a small zine with locally-sourced paper, printed and bound at my studio.”

Even though she’s changed her style and focus, the quality of Parc’s illustrations never changed. Her art is inspired by nature and people, even when there are no people in her illustrations. She’s now searching for ways to make her art environmentally-friendly, which includes finding sustainable alcohol markers and other sustainable supplies.
