Fragile Compositions That are “Hanging By a String”

Vicki Ling is s Chicago-based illustrator who created a rather intriguing series named Hanging By a String, in which she tried to explore and depict instabilities of an overwhelming contemporary lifestyle.

Everyday items, blooming flowers, and food are all perfectly arranged in Ling’s compositions, but they’re all wrapped with a thin, yet visible red string that is intended to show just how fragile modern-day life is.

The artist told in an interview with Colossal that even though we’ve reached a high level of economic and technological development, we are constantly struggling to keep up in this fast-paced world.

“Contemporary lifestyles tend to obscure various crises that spontaneously erupt, from privacy invasions to public health issues and from climate change to personal emotional disorders, etc. Often our preoccupations are so overwhelming that they lead us to conceal our anxiety in oblivion,” Ling says.

Take a look at her interesting illustrations in the photos below.
