Photographer Carl Warner Recreates Landscapes

Carl Warner is an illustrious professional artist and photographer who’s known for his masterful way of creating striking visual images that are amalgams of photography and art for more than 25 years. He began his career as a still life photographer, then started working in advertising which led him to explore other areas of commercial photography.

The London-based artist shoots all of his subjects in his studio, then seamlessly blends different photographs with each other using Photoshop. In his famous project Bodyscapes, he presents layers of human bodies positioned in a way that forms abstract landscapes, recreating deserts, mountains and barren ravines. The concept worked so well that he then created Foodscapes, a series of vivid landscapes made out of food that look both fantastical and undeniably delicious, inspired by the view of sea of foods at supermarkets.

The process of creating each scene is time-consuming and frustrating, considering that fresh produce wilts quickly under the merciless studio lights, but Warner makes the transformation of ordinary food into a magical landscape look so easy-going and natural that you almost feel like it’s a part of the real world. Using composition and lighting, he balances all elements into a cheerful and elaborate composition which deceives the human eye.
