Atelier CHAOS by Sandra de Groot represents diversity, crossover, art and design. Her recent collection of kNOTs combines elements of craft, sculpture, and architecture in wearable artworks. Each of the ropes that form the sculptures are made of natural, high quality cotton that allows the pieces to keep their texture, structure and shape. Each piece is knotted by hand.
“The sculptures evolve according to an inner logic that is all mine. Only when the sculpture attains a textile form of attraction and becomes self-contained, I literally let go the ropes,” according to the official website.
With huge quantities of knots and ropes involved in her artwork, de Groot wants to amplify awareness that raises questions about time, technique and intensity, which will create possible dialogue between object, viewer and maker.
