Serious Design: See Matija Erceg Pop-Photomontages

Matija Erceg is a Canadian graphic designer behind the @seriousdesign Instagram account in which she reconstructs everyday objects with food.

While dozens of artists on instagram try to show food in an attractive and tantalizing way, Matija transforms it with irony and pop “taste”, mixing it with tech objects in common use.

Light bulbs, gaming consoles, and earphones with his intervention acquire the taste of shrimp tempura, roasted turkey, pancetta and tomato pizza. His colorful collages are exquisitely repugnant. The series may look like a reflection on food industrialization or be a critique of the globalization of food and mass production — but maybe it’s just a brilliant pastime, and experiment what would have happened if no one had ever told us not to play with food.
