Art transcends just paintings and sculptures. It can also include pieces of furniture. Sebastian ErraZuriz is a talented woodworker that creates functional storage pieces. These designs are a part of his recent project called Mechanical Cabinet.
His cabinets, credenzas and other wooden pieces are functional and creative. One piece can be opened like a fan in four different directions, another seemingly simple box opens to reveal an extra set of drawers as well as a mirror.
ErraZuriz believes that humans understand reality by constraining meaning into simplified and closed boxes which had been defined previously by cultural conventions. Since they live in this pre-established borders of the mind, they only see what was previously defined or ordered. His grand plan? To break this box.
