It’s important to develop a style – a brand even – but at the same time you need to be versatile and ensure you’re not alienating certain audiences.”
Her versatility and spunk seemed to have paid off, attracting clients as big as Kenzo, House of Holland, Browns Fashion, and Opening Ceremony. But it took her some time to get there, working at first as a data analyst.
It was only at the age of 23 that she decided to pursue her makeup interest and enrolled at the London College of Fashion. But even then, she wasn’t fully in. “During my second year I stopped attending so I could concentrate on networking and shooting to build up a portfolio,” she recalled. Another good decision on her part.
Here are some of her eye-popping makeup looks.

]]>The self-taught (you’ve heard us right) talent was raised in Southern California and knew from an early age that she had a thing for art. Upon completing an education in graphic design, she moved to London, England and quickly found work on a number of cutting edge projects. Breaking away from design a few years later, Lottie moved into what she’d consider her true calling. She now works in LA and NY.
“My path was not a straight and easy one, I started wanting to be a graphic designer and in a roundabout way through an internship at a magazine for design I discovered that being a makeup artist was a real job outside of retail,” she recalled in an interview with the Reed Clarke blog. “From that point, I knew design was not my goal anymore and I did what I could to become a makeup artist. I practiced on every single person I knew, including myself and my husband and then starting testing and building a book.”
She has since keyed fashion shows in New York, Milan, London, Miami, and Los Angeles proving her decision was right. Check out some of her makeup looks in the gallery below. Which one is your favorite?

]]>Eszter Domonkos’ is no different. The Hungarian makeup artist loves experimenting with makeup, creating messy looks that don’t take themselves too seriously.
But oddly enough, her experience with makeup is relatively new. “I wasn’t interested in beauty and makeup before I started a makeup course in 2017,” she admitted in an interview with Office magazine. “I’m a creative person and I love drawing, so I wanted to study animation, but I didn’t get accepted to university and I felt like I should find something else where I can express myself. In early 2017 I saw that there was a fashion makeup course (at KREA Contemporary Art School) in my town, I checked out their portfolio and I loved their approach to makeup. I didn’t even have a brush before that, but they made me so obsessed with makeup and experimenting in just a couple of weeks that I realized that this is what I wanted to do.”
Now she plays with makeup full time, focusing primarily on her eye-popping eye looks. “I’ve always had an obsession with eyes, I just think they are beautiful,” she said. “Since I was really young I always used to draw eyes all over my exercise books in school during my classes. Another reason is that my makeup looks are really ‘messy’ and all over the place so I want there still to be some kind of order. I think I’ve posted 2 or 3 full face looks, and it’s definitely something I want to experiment with more in the future.”

]]>Enter Violette. The Paris-born, Brooklyn-based it-girl, known by her first name only, has been in the beauty industry a long time now, and since 2017 works as the global beauty director for Estée Lauder, which is no easy feat by any standard.
The self-made makeup artist is the poster child of the American dream, arriving to New-York in 2013 at the age of 19, broke, with no working experience and with barely any English.
She then studied art and fashion before starting a (very) successful YouTube channel, teaching the art of makeup. “I always hesitated between becoming a painter or a fashion designer, but neither excited me enough,” Violette admitted in an interview with Inside Out magazine.
“And then all became so evident when one night, completely by accident, I had to do a friend’s make up for a costume party. I put sparkles all over her face and it came to me: she was my muse. I was ‘dressing’ and painting her face. Today, all women are my muses, not some sort of blank canvas. I am celebrating all women and their femininity.”
Now she runs an equally successful Instagram page, where she shares her tips and tricks. “Makeup is actually not as superficial as some might assume,” she said. “On the contrary, there is a very deep psychological connotation to it. It is a tool that impacts who and what we see of ourselves in the mirror.”
Her bare beauty screams French girl, and is just what we needed for summer.

This is thanks not only to her attention to details and creativity but also due to the fact that her “makeup art” make you look twice in order to realize that’s just a makeup illusion.
“I get a lot of my inspiration from nature – it’s the basis of all art – and from past artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, and others,” Tulloch told Metro. “A lot of people have asked me if I have a theme and

Visual effects are strictly all achieved through makeup. This “art of illusion”, as she calls her works, sometimes requires long hours of work, patience and dexterity. Fascinated by painting since childhood, the graduate from the Seoul School of Fine Arts began using her body as an art medium in 2015. She is inspired by the works of the artist Liu Bolin, a real icon of contemporary art, nicknamed “The Invisible Man”.
Dain Yoon’s works often are so precise that it often takes several seconds to understand the illusion.

Inspired by Tim Burton’s film, she created for example a make-up version of a character from The Nightmare Before Christmas. More recently, she has offered us a tribute to the film The Grinch.
Still, her most popular creations are surely those in which the young woman uses trompe l’oeil that deforms her body. You can check out some of her impressive optical illusions below.
