While some are afraid of bugs, others find them quite beautiful. Including, for example, artist Duran Jay, who uses them as an inspiration for her eye makeup creations. She always has been into insects but recently started to appreciate them even more.

She thinks that parents are those who plant the fear of bugs into their kids’ minds. And with her makeup looks, she wants to help people to begin seeing bugs as beautiful creatures.

“With my makeup, I try to showcase some of the most beautiful species like butterflies or jewel beetles, but also give a little appreciation to those that aren’t as pretty and typically evoke a bad response, like ants or silverfish,” she shares in an interview with Bored Panda.

Scrolling through her Instagram feed, you can see colorful makeup looks inspired by tiny insects. She first finds an exotic bug on the internet, and then she tries to visualize an image in her head. Lastly, she does magic with the help of her brushes.

Each product she uses is made by a cruelty-free brand. The looks she makes are usually done in a matter of minutes, while others can take an hour or so to be finished.

If you aren’t afraid of bugs, check out her Instagram see her work.

Even in the overflowing container that is the beauty industry, makeup artist Marie Bruce stands out, creating looks that are both surprising as they are striking. And though her work is predominantly within fashion, there’s also a crossover into celebrities and music.

“Each day is genuinely different,” she told Lecture in Progress, talking about her day to day. “The industry is really fast-paced and the pool of talent is huge, so you have to keep up. It’s important to develop a style – a brand even – but at the same time you need to be versatile and ensure you’re not alienating certain audiences.”

Her versatility and spunk seemed to have paid off, attracting clients as big as Kenzo, House of Holland, Browns Fashion, and Opening Ceremony. But it took her some time to get there, working at first as a data analyst.

It was only at the age of 23 that she decided to pursue her makeup interest and enrolled at the London College of Fashion. But even then, she wasn’t fully in. “During my second year I stopped attending so I could concentrate on networking and shooting to build up a portfolio,” she recalled. Another good decision on her part.

Here are some of her eye-popping makeup looks.

Positivity is such a rare thing online – it seems like most people go online to tear others down. So it’s an absolute treat when we come across someone like Dulce Candy Ruiz, who wants to build others up through kindness and positivity.

How will our make-up look in the future? Will we still use lipstick and blush, or will we invent something new and exciting? Makeup artist Ines Alpha is using art to find out!

Ines is a Parisian-born makeup artist. Like most makeup artists, she started her journey at university, where she studied applied arts and management of fashion design. Then she moved to advertising, where she first learned about 3D design and CGI.

Ines was always fascinated with makeup, and she started experimenting with it at the tender age of 13! Futuristic looks, holographic nail polish, and silver, glittery face paint fascinated her.

Her knowledge of art and advertising, her familiarity with 3D design, and her love of makeup eventually led her to her passion project – creating futuristic digital makeup.

Ines designs looks using both traditional makeup and digital design. She uses makeup on her models’ faces and then adds layers of “makeup” on the computer, which results in a photo or a video of a unique, futuristic look. The makeup moves around, changes, and frames the models in interesting ways.

Will this be our real-life, everyday makeup in the future? We can’t know for sure, but we sure do hope so!

Lots of people use makeup every day, and why wouldn’t they? Makeup is a really powerful thing. It helps hide blemishes as well as makes your eyes pop. Some people use it to transform into other characters from movies and some use it to turn themselves into cartoon characters. Annie Thomas is among the latter.

Annie is a young artist from Pennsylvania who works part time in a winery, and apparently she uses the rest to make astonishing artworks. She may have received her inspiration from the Face Off show, but this 28 years old artist has been drawing from the age of five. It takes from 2-7 hours to apply her makeup to make a complete transformation into a cartoon character. She uses water activated paints so they are really easy to remove.

Her looks are very lifelike and catch the spirit of the character. She can literally turn herself into every character: Mr. Krabs and Patrick from Sponge Bob, the evil Jafar from Aladdin and even Hades from Hercules. This talented artist proves that there are no limits for her and her imagination!

Enjoy her artwork and the various cartoon characters she turns herself into!

Makeup artist, known simply as Lottie, is a household name in the fashion industry. Rocking fashion shows as well as magazines, she’s worked with the world’s biggest celebrities including Drew Barrymore, Rihanna, Paris Jackson, Emilia Clarke, and Solange Knowles; and her list of clients include Beauty Blender, Urban Decay, Benefit, Calvin Klein, and Marc Jacobs.

The self-taught (you’ve heard us right) talent was raised in Southern California and knew from an early age that she had a thing for art. Upon completing an education in graphic design, she moved to London, England and quickly found work on a number of cutting edge projects. Breaking away from design a few years later, Lottie moved into what she’d consider her true calling. She now works in LA and NY.

“My path was not a straight and easy one, I started wanting to be a graphic designer and in a roundabout way through an internship at a magazine for design I discovered that being a makeup artist was a real job outside of retail,” she recalled in an interview with the Reed Clarke blog. “From that point, I knew design was not my goal anymore and I did what I could to become a makeup artist. I practiced on every single person I knew, including myself and my husband and then starting testing and building a book.”

She has since keyed fashion shows in New York, Milan, London, Miami, and Los Angeles proving her decision was right. Check out some of her makeup looks in the gallery below. Which one is your favorite?

They say eyes are the windows to the soul, but what does that say about eye-shadow? Could eye makeup be the curtains to our soul? Whatever it means, we love adding a little pop of color, a little ounce of mystique, to our eyelids.

Eszter Domonkos’ is no different. The Hungarian makeup artist loves experimenting with makeup, creating messy looks that don’t take themselves too seriously.

But oddly enough, her experience with makeup is relatively new. “I wasn’t interested in beauty and makeup before I started a makeup course in 2017,” she admitted in an interview with Office magazine. “I’m a creative person and I love drawing, so I wanted to study animation, but I didn’t get accepted to university and I felt like I should find something else where I can express myself. In early 2017 I saw that there was a fashion makeup course (at KREA Contemporary Art School) in my town, I checked out their portfolio and I loved their approach to makeup. I didn’t even have a brush before that, but they made me so obsessed with makeup and experimenting in just a couple of weeks that I realized that this is what I wanted to do.”

Now she plays with makeup full time, focusing primarily on her eye-popping eye looks. “I’ve always had an obsession with eyes, I just think they are beautiful,” she said. “Since I was really young I always used to draw eyes all over my exercise books in school during my classes. Another reason is that my makeup looks are really ‘messy’ and all over the place so I want there still to be some kind of order. I think I’ve posted 2 or 3 full face looks, and it’s definitely something I want to experiment with more in the future.”

Check out some of her playful makeup art in the gallery below.

Korean-American, model, content creator, visual artist, and DJ, Josephine Lee (known online as Princess Gollum) is our current Instagram obsession. Her gothic-inspired aesthetic makes for an eye-popping, if a bit weird, effect, making her Instagram persona a source of endless inspiration.

It comes as no surprise that her iconic web presence (which has amassed more than 100 thousand followers) has caught the attention of the fashion world, leading to collaborations with brands like Opening Ceremony, Milk Makeup, Obey, and Drink This Milk.

“The initial transition from modeling as a hobby, to a career, happened organically,” admitted the LA-based it-girl in an interview with Something Curated. “My main goal now is to add to the representation of Asian Americans. I think pushing the boundaries of society’s beauty standard is very important. I think being able to express myself in this medium, being a foot smaller than the average model’s height and not having professional modeling background, is what thrills me the most. I’m happy to see more and more media representation of people who, like me, have found their light.”

Talking about her chosen nickname/persona, Princess Gollum explained:
“Gollum represents the internal conflicts of any mortal; two polar opposite personalities, contradicting yet coexisting. A love/hate relationship with the precious eventually leads to an extremely conflicting relationship with oneself. This was when I first really felt and understood the classic ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. I fell in love. I chose Gollum because I wanted to highlight what I identified with so heavily as a child, as well as crowning his name with princess to add a twinkle.”
