Sometimes, the best way to raise awareness and to protest something is to perform. That’s basically the gist of what performance art is.

Daria Kurtumulus, the creator of ArtFashion paints on clothes. When she learned about the Amazon rainforest fires, she knew she couldn’t just sit idly by as the world’s most important forest gets ravaged by fires that supposedly came out of nowhere.

In case you missed it, yes, the Amazon rainforest is on fire. It has been for quite some time, and it can’t be left that way.

The Amazon plays a huge part in the Earth’s climate system. Without it, we lose the forest that’s responsible for absorbing as much as 5% of all the CO2 we emit on an annual basis. That’s a lot, which is why this is a pretty big deal and Daria decided to go online to try and raise awareness for it.

If you’d like to see what exactly Daria did to help raise awareness, be sure to scroll down below.

Better yet though, you may want to spread the word, and find a way to help out. Because, if all of us don’t start doing something to help the environment individually, then the earth that we know today will no longer be the earth that we will be giving away to the children of tomorrow.

How to define GREBNELLAW? Their websites tagline states clearly that what they do is: “not art, not music, not fashion, not performance.” Dare we say, it’s something in between.

The creative project of visual artist, performer, and singer/songwriter, Nosslo-Grebnellaw Aniluap, GREBNELLAW (in all caps) celebrates the weird. “It’s an ongoing creative process that uses pop music, visual art, and performative elements to address contemporary issues,” reads their website.

“It also acts as a liberating force from social pressure and prejudice with ad-hoc performances that happen in the moment. The performances are site-specific, uses the ‘three-minute-pop song’ format and a red and white color code to communicate an easily recognizable style.”

Their red and white outfits are indeed recognizable, making their performances something between a fashion show and a music clip. “I started out making music because it was always easy to find dancers but there was always problems finding musicians who wanted to play,” explained Nosslo-Grebnellaw Aniluap in an interview with Office magazine. “Then it gets a little bit more complicated than that because I’m also a visual artist and I wanted to create.”

“Really, I play God and I create these beings β€” I just want to have millions of them everywhere,” she admitted. “We are very far from that right now, but maybe the technology will help us somehow in the future.”

So far, GREBNELLAW has presented her work in the world’s most prestigious stages including Guggenheim Museum, MoMA, The Coliseum in Rome and Mejii Shrine in Tokyo. Next time Met Gala chooses “camp” as their theme, they should definitely consider inviting her.

For the past decade or so, Chinese photographer Liu Bolin, AKA The Invisible Man, has been blending in with the scenery, using his body as a canvas.

But his introduction to photography was no fun and games. It actually started as a political act. “It was November 16, 2005 when the City of Beijing decided to knock down the Suojia Village neighborhood, where my studio once was,” he told Elle Decor. “In protest, I decided to take a photo camouflaging myself into the ruble of my studio to draw attention to the conditions of artists like myself.”

“In my works, I use my body and that of others to explore the impact and the paradoxical relationship with the ‘backdrop’, or the surrounding environment,” he explained. “I think using a body as the central image has a strong impact and attracts more attention from the public. This language is also a great way to represent my thoughts on the paradoxical relationship between man and the world. Have you ever asked yourself why man, other species, or ecosystems disappear?”

His work has been exhibited in museums around the world; and scrolling through his Instagram page, it’s truly amazing how flawlessly he camouflages himself, “melting” into the background.

Look carefully.
