Dolan Geiman’s collage art has an ethical core. Made from reused materials he has collected and salvaged since being a child, his collages are assembled from a variety of sources: anything from reclaimed wood and salvaged metal to vintage papers.

Handcrafting each work from start to finish, the result is highly textured and intricately detailed art pieces and collages that can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to complete. “I like to spend time reminiscing on the past while flipping through the pages of decades forgotten magazines, intently searching for the perfect shape, color, or texture within a periodical’s pages to add to my archive of collage elements,” writes Geiman on his website, reflecting on his creative process.

“I decided on the medium of collage because I didn’t have money to buy ‘proper’ supplies like fancy brushes or even canvas when I first started out,” he explains. “The paper I used then and still use today comes from abandoned spaces – old farmhouses, burned down buildings, abandoned gas stations, and the like.”

Multilayered and rich in narrative, his artwork weaves tales of foregone eras and untamed wilderness – landscapes, scenery, and characters that are inspired by the world he grew up in. “I grew up on a farm, caught crickets and bailed hay, painted with mud, dug up civil war relics, listened to midnight mockingbirds,” writes Geiman poetically. “These are the ingredients of life that have stuck with me and have built the foundation for the artwork I set forth into the world.”

Material designer and maker, Charlotte Kidger, is known for her sophisticated (and ethical!) approach to design. Her work includes furniture made from recycled industrial waste – polyurethane foam dust, a byproduct of 3D model making. Apart from being functional, her work also has a sculptural purpose, providing an industrial, if artistic, edge to interior design.

“It began with a curiosity into how I could transform general everyday waste plastic into a new material through alternative processing methods,” she explained the idea behind her line of furniture in an interview with Upcyclist. “I shifted from looking at everyday plastics and decided to focus on industrial waste streams, as I hoped for scalability and more unexpected material inputs.”

With a hands-on approach, Kidger went on to explore the possibilities of using secondary raw materials to create innovative and exciting new outcomes with a core focus on materiality. Using a wide range of traditional techniques and processes, her materials are reengineered and revalued to reveal their future potential and use.

“Each piece has a balance between form and function and can be perceived by the viewer as pieces of art or functional products,” says Kidger. They also make for a pretty powerful statement regarding our use and misuse of plastic waste.

How unique can a person get? How many limited editions sneakers can you order until you realize that those pairs are limited, yes, but not unique, you are not the only person in the world who has them. If this is a problem in your every-day life, it’s about time you meet The Shoe Surgeon. His job is exactly what it sounds like, he takes old sneakers and turns them into unique treasures.

Dominic Ciambrone – better known as  The Shoe Surgeon seemed to always have an affinity for slicing and dicing rare editions of shoes, which made him somewhat of an Instagram celebrity with over 676,000 followers so far.

His shop is in Los Angeles and there you can either buy his original designs or come up with your own, of course – if you have the cash to spare.  Imagine your wildest dreams, a combination of fusion that seems logical only in your head. Dream it – he can make it – dreamier!

Dominic is actually so good at what he does that he is even offering training courses for young people who want to follow his footsteps and become shoe surgeons themselves.

Meet Nkwocha Ernest an artist from Nigeria. He turns discarded old tyres into awesome sculptures.

“I’m trying to sanitise the environment – and as well sensitise the people.” Says Earnest.

Earnest has been turning old tyres into sculptor for seven years. He gets his ideas on what to work on from what he has already worked on. At one time, he worked on a crocodile and it greatly motivated him to work on more animals.

His love to recycle trash and turn into incredible art is not only mind blowing but also inspiring. He easily finds his material within his neighborhood and loves the fact that his talent helps to sanitize the environment.

In his spare time, he sensitizes the community about the usefulness of the tyre material. Although he has worked on several animal figures, he is trying to work on animal sculptors.

His prayer is his work to be recognized beyond Nigeria and Africa. He also wishes to hold international exhibitions.

Meet Kanat Nurtazin, an artist that loves creating drawings by cutting fallen leaves. She started her project “100 Methods of Drawing” five years ago to showcase her unbelievable talent. Life cutting art is one of her favorites because she is able to express herself beyond her imagination. The fact that she can create amazing art from a simple leave is astonishing.

Kanat believes a leaf’s life is fleeting just like our lives so she believed that she is giving a second life to them in order to discover an untold story. She loves to imagine a bright moment and sharing it with her wide audience.

Once she has finds an inspiration she draws it on the leaf and cuts with a razor. The most important thing is to find the best suitable place to catch with her camera at the right time and right angle.

Scroll down to enjoy her art.

#vjday #vjdaykiss #vjdayintimessquare #timessquarekiss #timessquare #astana #kazakhstan #life #newyork #newyorktimes
