He prefers drawing these emerging fantasies with fineliner pens that allow for a very refined shading. All images are black and white and usually filled with only two characters. These detailed illustrations are both amusing and a little disturbing, giving us clues about the sense of humor, observation skills and imagination of the artist.

]]>“As a child I all had theories about how the world worked and I rediscovered this at the academy and incorporated it into my drawing,” Hoekstra shared on his personal website. “For example, because I open up devices and objects and then freely fill in what is inside. This often gives a subject a completely different feeling or meaning. I associate on form, meaning and effect and thereby new combinations arise.”
The artist fusions owls and books, giraffes with toothbrushes, and imagines swans composed of dandelion seeds. He shares his work on his website, Behance and Instagram where he has gathered a following of over two thousand people.
