“I deeply feel the charm of places and I recognize their expressive potential,” he explained. “My main interest is the relationship between the different elements of the landscape and how contemporary languages dialogue with each other, building its emotional structure. I always spend the right time studying and understanding the characteristics of the site, which become constituent parts of the work.”

His unconventional style of sculpting incorporates mechanical objects and high-tech materials to produce astonishingly beautiful representations, which he nicknames “Mechanations.”

Having received no formal training in the arts, it wasn’t until his thirties that Peralta found his creative voice. “In 2005, while living in Hong Kong, I came across an exploded diagram of a bicycle on the back of a magazine,” he explains the inspiration for his work on his personal website. “I was inspired by its fragile beauty, and imagined a three-dimensional version with a real object.”

“The subjects I choose for the Mechanations series are icons of utility and invention,” he adds. “I also like to think they hold memories that we’ve long forgotten. They’ve watched generations pass; recorded every scene, love letter, and document. Each image, word, and note is permanently imprinted on them.”

She is an illustrator, painter and sculptor, which means that she produces a lot of different artworks, but you can still recognize her specific style in everything she creates, as well as her sense for experimentation in art. She has also been a production designer and art director on some short films.  

She says she sees art as a “one of a kind consequence of a unique temperament”, and the “best form of self-expression.” As shown by her playful and colorful illustrations and paintings, she likes to nurture her inner child and to bring an innocent sense of wonder to each piece. She is inspired by J.M. Barrie and Antoine de Saint-Exupery, who preached that maturity is not gauged by age or growing up, but rather “by the level of importance one holds for his inner child”.  

One could look at her work for hours, imagining the exciting stories standing behind them. Most of her pieces reflect deep emotions and inspire the viewer to fantasize and imagine.

Created by award-winning textile artist Amanda Cobbett, each unique piece is displayed in a contemporary form of the Victorian display case, allowing the work to be wall-hung and viewed from all angles or simply be cherished.

“I have always loved textiles,” she told Textile Artist. “I was encouraged to sew and make stuff on a machine from a very young age. I also made paper structures, and I have always explored everything with my hands.”

According to Cobbett, her passion for textiles developed at an early age while watching her mother and grandmothers, all gifted seamstresses. Her Father a draughtsman, and grandfather, a talented engineer, also played a part with their ability to visualize in 3D, and to turn a sketch into an object.

Inspired by nature in all its forms, her 3-dimensional, papier mache, and machine-embroidered sculptures are created from her studio in the Surrey Hills. Machining approximately 130,000 individual stitches a day, her creations highlight the beauty and diversity that exists in the undergrowth.

“My need to physically make has always been with me, and now my work fulfills all those desires,” she concluded. Take a look at some of her breathtaking pieces.

Having studied fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago she has built props for advertising campaigns in Manhattan before earning her MFA from Hunter College, where she was accepted into the painting program only to be captivated by clay. 

Her ceramic and porcelain creations were featured in numerous exhibitions at key galleries and museums, including the Galerie Perrotin, Seoul and the Galerie Perrotin, New York. 

“It’s easy to find art in the abject, that touches some dark discord,” she told Galerie, “but I think it’s possible to make work that is relevant and beautiful.”
