These Embroidered Necklaces Make the Perfect Gift

Philippines-based embroidery artist Ruby Thursday More turned her hobby into a career after her first child was born. “I used to work as a freelance photojournalist, but when I got pregnant, my husband and I decided that I’d stay at home for a while and take care of our daughter,” she recalled in an interview with the Etsy blog.

A creative at heart, Thursday More soon felt antsy and decided it was time to do something creative with the free time she had. “I started making an inventory of my skills and what I’d like to do, and I decided I’d really enjoy working with fabric and drawing and colors,” she notes. “I had a few threads, so I tried embroidering, and it’s cliché, but it was love at first sight.”

Embroidery, as it turns out, also runs in her genes. “Creating is in my blood,” she explained on her website. “My maternal grandmother used to make quilts and sell it to farmers during the harvest season.” Thursday More also remembers how her mother used to sew pencil cases and throw pillowcases. “I used to sit under her sewing machine, cutting away the excess threads from the things she has made.”

Nowadays, her embroidery takes the form of jewelry, with her unique necklaces featuring floral patterns that add a touch of vintage chic to any outfit. See for yourself.
