This Dance Group Combines Ballet With Hip Hop

Ballet is a beautiful, difficult form of dance that requires years of training and dedication. Hip Hop is no less difficult or impressive, though very different. This dance group combines the two to create a new form of dance – Hiplet.

Hiplet, a combination of Hip Hop and Ballet, was created by dance teacher Homer Bryant of the Chicago Multicultural Dance school. His goal was to take the classical, sometimes a bit outdated classical ballet and freshen it up with elements of African-American and Latino dance.

Hiplet dancers are not any less talented or skilled as classical ballerinas. In fact, all the dancers in Bryant’s dance group are classically trained and they can perform in any classical ballet. But these young dancers didn’t feel at home in classical ballet. They wanted to combine they’re own culture and passion into the centuries-old form of art.

Hiplet takes the most impressive elements of ballet and hip hop and combines them. Hiplet dancers wear pointe shoes and dance on the tip of their toes like ballerinas, but also move their entire bodies around like Hip Hop dancers. This new way to move your body is so stunning and unique, it’s just a matter of time until it takes over the dancing world.
