Add a Nordic Touch to Your Kitchen With These Wooden Utensils

Kirill Babii makes minimalistic utensils that will inspire you to get cooking. Either that or they’ll add a rustic, Nordic feel to your kitchen. Handmade from walnut and apricot tree, Babii’s utensils are meant to be both sustainable and beautiful.

“I like working with my senses,” he shared with the Etsy blog, “the materials, and the function and requirements of the piece to create the best possible combination—something that distills the very best of everything and keeps only the most necessary elements.”

He explains that sometimes good design occurs fast and coincidentally, but often it’s the result of long and hard work and much trial and error. “But it’s always so inspiring to create,” says Babii. “It’s the most valuable time in my life.”

With an emphasis on environment protection and zero-waste ethics, Babii’s designs are made from fallen trees and unused logs cast off from construction sites.“I don’t cut down trees for the wood I need,” he stressed. “I also try to be as efficient as possible with how I use the wood I have.”

And while he doesn’t necessarily think that we must only use natural materials in our lives, he notes that as humans we should consider which materials we use and how our choices influence our life and our environment.
