Professor Raises Awareness to People With Disabilities With a Series Of Unique Illustrations

Have you ever had a problem accessing your car? Not being to enter your vehicle, because someone has come so close to it that you can’t even open the door? Well, this is nothing compared to the troubles that people with special needs have to overcome every day. While many countries make a real effort to make everything more accessible for people with disabilities, there are still those who seem not to notice this problem.

Having had enough of that, professor Azari Mat Yasiris created a series of drawings that illustrate the everyday struggles of people with disabilities who are just trying to lead a normal life, in an attempt to raise awareness of accessibility problems. Azari, who has been teaching architecture at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for over 18 years, decided that society needs to open its eyes and solve the issue. It appears that in Malaysia the goal of accessibility for everyone is not a priority, because as the architect says, very few buildings other than hospitals are accessible for people with disabilities and that is a huge everyday problem for them.
