Inspired by fashion and haute couture, Moscow-based artist Katerina Marchenko sews vivid colored threads into tulle to create beautiful embroidered images of portraits, animals and anatomical studies. Her works are framed thread paintings with 3D effects thanks to the artist’s great attention to color shading and harmony.
“Embroidery is a meditative process which helps me to calm down and gather all my thoughts,” Marchenko told Colossal.
Marchenko skips the sketching stage and begins each piece with contours before allowing the artistic process to dictate what the final design will look like.
