Pop culture often serves as a major source of inspiration for many modern artists, but no one is doing it like Nashid Chroma. His illustrations draw inspiration from colors and nature, but celebrities remain his biggest muse, and his illustrations do a great job of showing iconic figures in a brand-new light.

Chroma is a digital pop artist based in Toronto, who embarked on quite a creative journey before building an impressive following on social media, with almost 200,000 followers under his belt. He studied fine art and psychology at the University of Waterloo and made a switch to architecture during his master’s studies at the University of Toronto, but eventually decided to stick to digital art.

Chroma’s illustrations are instantly recognizable thanks to floral and geometric symbols that became a cornerstone of his work over the years. He enjoys exploring “the tension between human and object” through his art, and that’s one of the reasons why he decided to focus on celebrity culture.

“Celebrities are real people with emotions, insecurities, and dreams – but they are also idols of secular worship and adoration… There is also the question of intellectual property and copyright that is flirted with in Nashid’s work because of the direct clash between an artist’s freedom of expression and a celebrity’s right of publicity,” he writes on his official website.

Most artists portray ghosts as scary creatures lurking in the shadows, but not Caleb Worcester. He made quite a splash on social media with his whimsical illustrations, and most of them show ghosts wearing white sheets and living their best lives.

Worcester is a freelance illustrator and animator from Kansas City, who embarked on quite a journey since finding his true calling. Despite his endless love for art, he decided to pursue mechanical engineering as a safe option after graduating from high school, but his plans changed after the pandemic hit.

“I was given the time and space to buckle down and really dive head first into the world of illustration. I loved the way I could communicate and express these big ideas of even bigger worlds, and I found myself with a voracious appetite for anything art-related,” he told Spaces.

Worcester started sharing his illustrations online and built quite a following, with over 120,000 followers on Instagram alone. He wants his body of work to transport people into worlds filled with magic and light—and ghosts are a big part of that.

Some of Worcester’s best illustrations and animated videos feature sheet-covered ghosts simply going about their day. Instead of presenting them as scary creatures, he shows them doing the same activities that brought them joy while they were humans, from riding a bike and doing laundry to fishing and reading.

Cats have the power to turn your life upside down and that’s what one Malaysian artist learned when an adorable black kitty walked into their life. It was love at first sight, and Studio After Cigs founder quickly started sharing silly illustrations inspired by their hilarious new pet.

The talented Malaysian artist adopted their black cat Pow Pow after stumbling upon her in their housing area in early 2021. It felt like fate brought them together, and Pow Pow’s grumpy and sassy cattitude inspired her owner to capture her antics for all to see.

The Studio After Cigs founder describes themselves as a self-taught and always learning artist, and Pow Pow inspired them to push themselves artistically.

“I find my inspiration in my little feline companion. Each brushstroke is a journey of discovery as I capture her colors, textures, and emotions of her… I’m constantly pushing my boundaries and exploring new techniques to bring my feline subjects to life,” they told Bored Panda.

This artist is on a quest to convey the sassiness and complexity of cats through Pow Pow, and they’re definitely succeeding. There’s no challenge she can’t face – with a wine glass in hand – and over 370,000 people on Instagram can’t get enough of her silly adventures.

An original watercolor illustration of the first edition cover of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s on June 26. The illustration is expected to fetch anywhere between $400,000 and $600,000. This would make it the most expensive item related to a popular book series.

Artist Thomas Taylor made the illustration at the age of 23 and it was his first-ever commissioned artwork. It was used for the first edition of the book in the United Kingdom and sporadically for books translated into other languages. In the United States, the artwork created by Mary GrandPré was used as a cover alongside a different title of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

In 2001, following the release of the movie based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Taylor auctioned off the illustration through Sotheby’s. At the time, the piece was purchased by a private collector for $106,000.

“At the time this seemed like an optimum moment to sell: with the new film just out, I thought the books would all be given movie tie-in covers, and my artwork quickly forgotten. That didn’t happen of course, but there was no way I would have kept the artwork till today — I would certainly have sold it long ago,” Taylor shared in an Instagram post.

Taylor’s illustration for the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone cover hasn’t been exhibited since being purchased, but that is set to change in the days leading up to the auction. The fans of the series will be able to see it at Sotheby’s exhibit gallery in New York City from June 21 to 25. It will then head to auction alongside the first edition of the book, which is expected to sell for $100,000.

Anything and everything can be turned into a piece of art or something creative if you are imaginative enough. And there is no doubt that Prague-born illustrator Kristian “Mr. Kriss” Mensa has plenty of imagination.

Mensa sees things around him very differently than most people. Where someone sees an everyday item, this talented artist notices an object that can serve as a complementary piece to his drawing. This includes using mushroom as a champagne cork, pasta noodles as a bird nest, and zucchini as a zeppelin.

In an interview with HuffPost, Mensa revealed that he believes inspiration is all around, and people only need to recognize it. He also shared that he had a different perspective on things ever since he started drawing as a seven-year-old.

“I’ve always liked to make my own rules, and I didn’t like being told what I should or shouldn’t draw,” he shared.

This mindset worked out quite well for Mensa, considering his unusual works became quite popular on social media. He has more than 90K followers on Instagram, while he also caught the attention of several high-profile brands who started using his artwork in their campaigns.

Movies and comic books usually feature superheroes in some world-saving missions, fighting the bad guys, or doing other superhero-related things. However, we rarely have a chance to see their everyday activities and how they behave in ordinary life situations. For example, what happens when Superman tries to scratch his back but can’t hit the spot or what is Batman’s routine like when he comes home after a fight.

Luckily, we now can see what Marvel, DC, and other comic-book makers keep hidden thanks to Lucas Nascimento. This Brazilian artist, also known as Dragonarte, creates amusing and often hilarious illustrations that show the everyday side of superhero life.

With their light-hearted humor and familiar characters, Nascimento’s works are quite popular among social media users. He has more than 100K fans on Facebook, while his Instagram following has surpassed 215K users.

Nascimento’s works don’t feature dialog and instead rely on art to tell the story. The main reason for this, according to the artist, is his intention to create stories that people from around the world can understand. He also uses popular characters and doesn’t shy away from bringing together superheroes from different franchises.

Alice Bowsher is an illustrator based in London, UK, who creates simplistic and charming illustrations. Her works usually focus on adorable characters that have a doodle vibe to them but with so much more personality.

Most of the characters featured in Bowsher’s illustrations have some quirky and unexpected dimensions to them. This can be anything from a bear wearing cowboy boots and reading a book to an aristocratic crocodile who comes bearing gifts.

You can see Bowsher’s works in numerous ways. Besides posting them on social media, the artist also released several books, has several murals across London, and did a design of strawberry-flavored beer produced by Camden Town Brewery.

One curiosity about Bowsher is that she actually never intended to pursue a career in illustration. She originally studied Fine Arts but discovered it wasn’t for her. She later switched to Graphics, where one professor noticed her gift for illustration and encouraged her to explore it further.

Bowsher decided to give it a try and never regretted it once.

“I enjoy creating things that make people smile,” she shared in a recent interview with Creative Boom. “Sometimes it can feel a bit pointless drawing silly things all day, but I think there is some importance in giving people some sweet relief from relentless bad news.”

Check out more of her cool works below.
