Ewelina Dymek Sets the Mood for Fashion

Poland-based illustrator Ewelina Dymek combines pencil drawing, collage, and digital software, creating vibrant themes that distill the very essence of fashion. “A captivating fashion illustration not only depicts clothing (which is very important!) but also evokes certain feelings and creates atmosphere,” she stated in an interview with Inky Goodness.

Understanding fashion not only as a way to cover the body but as a way of life, Dymek’s artwork sets the mood. “A good fashion illustrator not only draws a piece of clothing but also interprets it in his own way and is able to convey certain mood behind a designer’s collection,” she stressed.

Inspired by the world around her, her style is also informed by her predecessors – fashion illustrators such as David Downton, René Bouché, and Bernard Blossac. “Although their style is completely different from mine, I love how expressive it is – how these artists capture fashion and femininity by using only a few strokes of paint or ink,” she says.

And though well known in the industry (with clients that include GQ and Vanity Fair), Dymek makes sure to challenge herself, never stopping to rest on her laurels. “My style has developed over the years through trial and error,” she explains. “By experimenting with different kinds of tools I was able to see how I feel about working with them. Although I feel like I’ve found my distinctive style, I’m still honing my skills to be even more proficient in using tools and be confident by expressing myself through drawing.”
