Get Lost In Caro Arevalo’s Hypnotic Paintings

Caro Arevalo’s art makes for a soothing effect. Consisting of repeating patterns, dots, and shapes, her paintings put an emphasis on repetition and interconnection – it’s a sort of meditative art, an effect that is well-intended.

Originally from Peru and currently based in Brooklyn NY, Arevalo says she draws inspiration from her Amazonian heritage and learns from its ancient wisdom. “I embrace the importance of rituals and ancestral wisdom as they taught me that by observing nature we notice that there is no real separateness in-between beings and that the whole universe is connected,” she reflected in an interview with the DUFMOD blog. “These are the building blocks of my artwork.”

“I love being able to work from wherever I want,” she went on to say. “If traveling or going to the beach I can take my studio with me. I also love being able to focus on paintings that resemble the current theme I am obsessed about, and not having to follow other people’s agendas. The worst part is I am still learning how to stop working, as nature is what inspires me I sometimes feel a necessity to paint all the time, but I have found that stopping to just rest or gaze is so helpful too.”

Inspired by nature, her art is a representation of both micro and macro worlds. Using techniques like cartography, acuity enhancement, and symmetrical repetition, her paintings form a sort of colorful maze. But beware! You might just get lost.
